04-Techniques & species

What we chase,
how we fish.

Techniques are chosen based on the species present in the area. Nothing is set in stone: we adapt to the day's activity.

  1. 01

    Live bait fishing

Ideal for mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna and marlin.

  2. 02

    Bait fishing (chumming)

Pieces of bait are scattered in the area to attract the big predators.

  3. 03

    Jigging

Vertical animation of a lure at depth, particularly around the FADs.

  4. 04

    Soft lure fishing

We troll lures that imitate the natural prey of large predators.

They did it.

Thank you to the Réunion Pêche Pei team for their explanations and kindness. A 23 kg wahoo and a 180 kg marlin! I thought I was unlucky… apparently not!

08-Frequently asked questions

Before you call.

01Where does the big game fishing trip with Réunion Pêche Pei depart from?

The meeting point is the Saint-Gilles-les-Bains marina, on the west coast of Réunion Island, in front of the entrance to the Aquarium de La Réunion.

02Do I need fishing experience to come aboard?

No. Trips suit both beginners and experienced anglers. The crew adapts explanations and techniques to your level and the day's conditions.

03How many people can come aboard?

Capacity is 4 people maximum, to keep trips intimate. It is also possible to join an existing group.

04Which fish can we target?

Depending on season and conditions: marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, albacore, mahi-mahi, wahoo, barracuda or bonito. No catch is guaranteed.

05What is the best season for big game fishing in Réunion Island?

Fishing is good all year round in Réunion. The austral summer (November to April) is peak season for marlin and mahi-mahi; the austral winter (May to October) remains very productive for tuna, wahoo and bonito. Techniques and zones are adapted to each season.

06Can we see whales during the trip?

During the austral winter (June to October), humpback whales frequent Réunion's waters and sightings at sea are not uncommon. Whale watching is a bonus: the boat respects regulatory approach distances.

07Do I need a licence to fish at sea in Réunion?

No. Recreational sea fishing requires no licence in France, including Réunion Island. You come aboard, the crew takes care of the equipment and everything else.

08Does the crew speak English?

Yes. On board we speak French, English and Réunion Creole. International visitors are very welcome.

09What if I'm prone to seasickness?

If you are sensitive, take seasickness medication before boarding, eat light and keep your eyes on the horizon. The leeward west coast often offers calmer seas.

10How do I book a trip?

The quickest way is to call +262 692 87 33 12 to confirm the slot, availability, rate and weather conditions.
